Wrocław is one of the oldest cities in Poland. Located in the south-western part of the country, it is the capital of one of the 16 voivodshis and the fourth biggest city in Poland. The city is located on a plain, by the  Oder river which channels and branches create unique atmosphere. No wonder  Wrocław is called the city of 12 islands and over 100 bridges.

Wrocław is a place where two transport corridors meet. Moreover, the city is an important centre for production and transit, and one of the most important logistic centres in the country – there are many logistics and freight forwarding companies here. The city offers also the second biggest railway station, logistic parks with growing number of warehouses. These are also the places visited by our students, where they can practice and later find employment.

Wrocław is located 360 km away from Warsaw, 380 km from Vienna, 360 km from Berlin, and 260 km from Prague.

Wrocław is one of the biggest academic centers in the country. The total number of students amounts at circa 130,000 people. The students’ life is flavoured by numerous pubs, cafes, and night clubs. Wrocław is also a cultureal center. Art enthusiasts will find various galleries, theatres and cinemas. Moreover, the city organizes such events as “Jazz on the Oder”, Review of the Drama Song, Days of Old Masters’ Music, Theatre of One Actor, and International Festival Dialog. The capital of the Lower Silesia is one of the greenest cities of Poland. It is worth to see the city in springtime, when the Botanic Garden is filled with numerous unique specimens and with flower arrangements. In the vicinity  Pergola and the Japanese Garden are located, the latter being  designed according to the idea of the Japanese gardening art.

An important place in the city is a wonderful, gothic Town Hall and one of the biggest market squares in Europe. Within the old town visitors can see historic churches such as St. Albert or St. Matthew. In the nearby the main building of  Wrocław University is located. It is worth to see Leopoldinum Assembly Hall with is unique baroque interior. In the vicinity, the famous Panorama Racławicka and National Museum are located. Medieval Ostrów Tumski it is an exceptional place. It used to be the residence of Wrocław’s archbishop and now is a picturesque connection between wharfs of the Oder and old, gothic cathedrals and churches.

Public Transport

The public transport is supported by 2 types of transport:

• trams - 23 permanent lines
• buses - 74 lines (including night communication)
• the tram network is one of the biggest ones in Poland. At present, the expansion of tram network had begun: among different communication projects the fast municipal tram is being introduced.

The students use monthly and quarterly tickets, which enable them to use all public service vehicles. Because of the convenient location, students also look for the accommodation in towns that are about 30 km away from Wrocław (the journey by rail or coach takes about 30 minutes).
